17 July 1914.  Holiday on Tuesday afternoon because of Prince Arthur’s visit to open the New Dock
31 July 1914.  Miss Wilding appointed in Miss Leng’s place .  Miss Leng leaves this afternoon to be married

2 Oct 1914.  Dinners commenced on Saturday for the poor children as well as the school days

30 July 1915.  Miss W Smale leaves today to be married & Miss GE James is transferred from Alexandra Rd Infants to take her place

18 Feb 1916.  Weather has been rough
31 March 1916.  A terrible blizzard on Tuesday, only a third of the children attended school.  Miss Wilding could not get a train & so was absent all day.  Miss James arrived about 11am unable to get a train earlier
5 May 1916.  Received at note to say that Mrs Phillips is appointed as supply teacher for the new class.             16 June 1916.  Whitsuntide but no holiday on account of the war
1 Sep 1916.  Elvira Williams commenced duties as pupil teacher on Tuesday
13 Oct 1916.  A little girl Josephine Benson died on Monday morning after a very short illness
20 Oct 1916.  Fires lit in the babies room
3 Nov 1916.  Miss Phillips absent from school since Tuesday afternoon, she has gone to a sanatorium for treatment
22 Dec 1916.  Miss Hulbert absent from Monday until Thursday on account of the death of her father
12 Jan 1917.  Weather wet & stormy
9 March 1917.  Attendance very bad owing to a very heavy fall of snow.
23 March 1917.  Miss Wilding resigned as she has received a better appointment in the country
20 April 1917.  Miss Donald ex pupil teacher is taking Miss Wilding’s place
27 April 1917.  Miss Loveday commenced duties on Thursday 26th.  I shall give her Miss Wilding’s class as she is certificated & give Miss Donald the 10th class
8 June 1917.  Miss Tarrent left today to be married
22 June 1917.  Miss Phillips returned to school on Monday after being at a sanatorium for seven months
27 July 1917.  Miss Smale will not return after the holidays.  Miss F Williams, pupil teacher, has passed the exam & will enter College in Sept.

24 Oct 1917.  A little boy Ivor Maybury was killed on Friday evening last.  He was playing on the edge of the pavement & was knocked down by a horse & cart

16 Jan 1918.  Heavy snow fell during last night.
5 Feb 1918.  Irene King, 6th class, returned to school last Tuesday and she should not have done so until I had received a certificate from the Medical Officer of Health, which I had not.  I found out the mistake today & sent her home
17 June 1918.  Numbers very low this afternoon on account of parents having taken their children to town to witness the arrival of the ‘Tank’
26 July 1918.  Miss Elvira Williams, pupil teacher, was successful in the Preliminary Exam & is entering College in September. 
27 Aug 1918.  Miss James was married during the holidays & her name is now Mrs Morrison.  She has been appointed as a supply teacher for the duration of the War
20 Sep 1918.  Miss Donald is leaving to go to College & Miss Rees from Durham Rd Girls School has been appointed to take her place
23 Sep 1918.  Miss W Rees, Art 50, commenced work her today
9 Oct 1918.  Fires are now needed in all the class rooms but I am unable to have them throughout the school because the supplies of coal & sticks have not yet arrived.  I have had the lighted where I thought they were most required
11 Nov 1918.  Half holiday this afternoon on account of the “Peace Proclamation”
17 Jan 1919.  Many children suffering from mumps & chicken pox
24 Feb 1919.  Miss Nicholas, trained certificated assistant commenced duties this morning, transferred from Crindau Boys’ School
3 March 1919.  Miss Ashton, trained certificated assistant commenced duties this morning.  Transferred from Crindau Boys’ School
1 April 1919.  Miss W Rees transferred to Crindau Girls School
19 May 1919.  The nurse visited the school this afternoon to inspect the children’s heads.  3 children were excluded
30 May 1919.  Miss Ashton left this afternoon, she has been transferred to Liswerry Mixed School.  Miss Nicholas also left.  She has taken an appointment outside the town
