In Kelly's 1848 Newport Directory: Wintle, James, Importer of and Dealer in Wines and Spirits, 164, Commercial Street.

By 1876 Ewins J. & Son, wine merchants were operating from that Address.

1851 Census shows James Wintle, Age 38, born in Culham, Berkshire, and living in Commercial Street, Newport with his wife and family.
