Wern-y-Cleppa Stones

Photo reference number: 1763

Newport's earliest surviving stone monument - around 5000 years old.

All that now remains of a prehistoric burial chamber. It probably was originally capped with a large stone.

One can just catch a glimpse of this monument when travelling towards Newport from the West on the M4. It is on the left just before the Tredegar Park exit.

The nearby Iron Age Gaer Hill Fort (or Tredegar Camp) can also be seen from the M4 just after the above mentioned exit.

Photographed 2011.
