Shale Lorry Accident in Newport High Street

Twenty seven year old lorry driver Lue Taim, had a shock this morning when his tipper lorry loaded with nearly ten tons of quarry rock suddenly reared on to its tail in Newport High Street.
Mr. Taim found himself sitting in his cabin, but high in the air — his lorry resting on its tail, and his load piled on the road in the midst of early morning traffic.
"I was just creeping along with the traffic when it happened. I didn't really know anything about it. I was driving along slowly, then I was up in the air," he said. Mr. Taim, a black man from London, now Lodging in Newport, was taking his first load of the day from Caerllwyn, near Risca, to the steelworks site when the accident occurred at about 8.45 a.m.
He climbed down from his cab, which was some 12 feet in the air.
"Luckily, there was nothing immediately behind me," he said.
