Canal Barge

Ernest Stephens has contacted us with the following information about this photo:

The barge is on the Monmouthshire canal. On the left is Cordes Dos works. The railway system to the right of photograph was formally The Monmouthshire Railway heading north to Cwmbran / Blaenavon. The period when this photograph was taken the Great Western Railway had absorbed the Monmouthshire railway. The lifting bridge was for the siding leading into Cordes Dos works and was raised to allow canal barges to pass.
