Newport Commercial Street

Postcard with 1937 postmark. Tram 15 heading for Chepstow Road. To our right we can see (83) M Shepherd Ltd. decorators and paperhangers, (84 & 85) Jones' Newport Garage. The sign outside the garage says "No. 1 Petrol 1/3 per gallon." That's just over 6p a gallon... 1.4p a litre!

To our immediate left is St. Paul's Church and then Palmyra Place. Just about visible further on is a sign for Robins Ltd., (111) wireless and electrical engineers. This dates the photo to around 1930.
