Sir Clifford J. Cory Bart.

Cory, Sir Clifford J. Bart., J.P.,D.L.,M.P., was born at Cardiff 10th April, 1859, and is a son of the late John Cory, J.P., D.L. He was educated privately and on the Continent. Is chairman of Cory Bros. & Co., Ltd., the well known firm of colliery proprietors and coal exporters and foreign coaling depots owners. Formerly captain 3rd Bat. Welsh Regiment. Contested South Monmouthshire in 1895, Tonbridge Division of Kent 1900. Was elected Member of Parliament in the Liberal interest for the St. Ives Division in 1906, and still represents that constituency. Was High Sheriff of Monmouthshire in 1905, County Councillor for Glamorgan from 1892 to 1910. Was president of the Monmouthshire and South Wales Coal Owners' Association in 1906. Chairman, pro. tern., of the Conciliation Board for the Coal Trade of Monmouthshire and South Wales, 1906. Chairman Cardiff Liberal Association 1906-11. President Cardiff Incorporated Chamber of Commerce 1907-8, during which period the late King Edward visited Cardiff in company with Queen Alexandra for the opening of the Queen Alexandra Dock. Chairman of South Wales and Monmouthshire School of Mines. Governor of University College of South Wales. Member of Court of Bristol University. Director, besides other companies, of the Anglo-French and Belgian Corporation (chairman), Barry Railway, Vale of Glamorgan Railway, Cumberland Waste Heat Owners' Co. Ltd. (chairman), Penrikyber Navigation Colliery Co. Ltd. Married in 1893 Jane Ann Gordon, daughter of the late Albert Arthur Erin Lethbridge. Recreations: Hunting, shooting, farming, polo.
