George Humphrey Tovey

Tovey, George Humphrey is the eldest son of the late George Charles Tovey, who in his day was one of the best-known figures in the life of the town, was born in Newport in 1882, and educated locally and at Devon County School, West Buckland, near South Molton. After leaving school he entered his father's business, and is to-day the principal partner in the firm of Messrs. Tovey Brothers, funeral directors, which was originally established by his grandfather in the year 1860. As pioneers in their particular line, they are, so far, the only firm in South Wales operating their own motor hearse, and contracting for motor funerals over practically any distance. Is a Mason, being a member of the Albert Edward Lodge. Is married, and the father of six sons and one daughter. Is the president of the recently formed Newport District Branch (which embraces all Monmouthshire) of the British Undertakers' Association, Is a member of the Tabernacle Congregational Church. One of his brothers - Percy J. Tovey - who is a partner in the business, served in France with the "Sportsman's" Battalion, 23rd Royal Fusiliers for nearly three years until the Armistice.
