Heard, Arthur Wentworth is the second son of Mr. W. E. Heard. He commenced his commercial career in 1884 with G. W. Jones, Heard & Co., Newport, subsequently spending several years in Cardiff, Manchester and London. Early in 1904 he went to Johannesburg to take up an appointment with one of the principal mining and financial groups in South Africa, returning at the end of 1909 to Newport to take an active interest in Jones, Heard & Co., Ltd., of which company he is a director and the secretary. He is President of the Newport Chamber of Commerce Incorporated, member of other public bodies, a company director, and takes a lively and personal interest in everything pertaining to the advancement and interests of the Port of Newport.
