Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery Visits Newport.

On Saturday September 29th 1945 'Monty' visited Newport and was made the 11th Freeman of the town. This photo shows Newport's Mayor, George Armstead, greeting Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery at the railway station. After lunch at the Kings Head 'Monty' was duly enrolled as the 11th Freeman of Newport at the Great Central Hall.
