George Thomas Sibbering

Sibbering, George Thomas was born at Merthyr Tydfil on the 25th November, 1861. He was educated at Queen's College, Taunton, and University College, Cardiff. Served his pupilage under Mr. Samuel Harpur, M.I.C.E., Merthyr Tydfil. Joined the engineer's staff of the Rhymney Railway, Cardiff, in 1883, and later on in that year entered the engineer's office of the Taff Vale Railway Company, Cardiff. Was appointed chief engineer to the Taff Vale Railway Co. in 1894. Is a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers, a member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, past president of the Permanent Way Institution, a member of the South Wales Institute of Engineers, and past president of the Bristol, West of England and South Wales Association of Students of the Institution of Civil Engineers, and member of the Railway Engineers' Association. During the war held a commission in the 2nd Battalion (Volunteer) of the Welsh Regiment, His only son, John Cyril Richard Sibbering, Lieut. R.A.F., went to France and Belgium in the very early stages of the war, and was demobilised in the beginning of 1919. He holds the Mons Star, 1914. Residence: Alteryn House, Alteryn. Tel. 2846.
