Robjent, Frederick Pring born in Bristol, where, in 1875, he entered the office of Messrs. Sayce, Jones & Co., an old established firm of stockbrokers. He came to Newport in 1883, and started business as a stock and share broker, which he has continued up to the present time. Was president of the Newport Stock Exchange in 1917. He was first elected a member of the Newport Town Council in representation of the Caerau Ward in 1902. Is chairman of the Finance Committee, and, in November, 1914, was chosen as Mayor for the ensuing year. Is an enthusiast in the cause of Greater Newport, and on three occasions - 1903, 1904 and 1911 - has occupied the position of president of the Newport Chamber of Commerce Incorporated. He is the representative of the Chamber on the Newport Harbour Commissioners, of which body he was chairman 1915-16, and is keenly interested
in river improvement. Is a magistrate; also member of Council Association of Chambers of Commerce; has been interested in the reorganisation and improvement of many railway and other companies; chairman Mold and Denbigh Ry.; West Somerset Mineral Ry.; Colonial Property and Rubber Co. Ltd.; the Kurunegala (Ceylon) Rubber Co. Ltd.; and is a director of the Festiniog Railway; Didcot, Newbury and Southampton Ry.; Harborne Ry.; Caledonian (Ceylon) Tea and Rubber Estates, Ltd.
