Joseph Latch (1791 - 1883) was a colliery owner / coal merchant. He became a member of the Royal Cambrian Lodge, freemasons, in 1812. He was mayor of Newport twice - in 1835 and 1845.
His brother, William Latch (1802 - 1869) was a watch and clock maker in Newport.
Joseph's great-great grandson, Roger Keith Williams, was also mayor of Newport, 1975 - 1976.
