Commercial Street and Westgate Square

An early type postcard with the message on the picture side (rather than on the address side). A busy scene, including a lot of youngsters, several of whom appear to be holding newspapers. The trams are horse drawn with passengers sitting on the open top decks. Both trams appear to be stationary and a passenger has just descended the stair on the tram going away from us to disembark. The tram coming towards us bears an advert for Gane's Furniture Store. The clock on the town hall tells us the photo was taken at 1.20pm. The year - around 1900.
