Arthur Nichols Moore

Moore, Arthur Nichols M.I.E.E., is the second son of George Nichols Moore, of Northwood, Middlesex, and married the eldest daughter of Henry Ashbee, of Greystones, co. Wicklow. He was born at Cheltenham, and educated at Whitgift School and Sheffield University, where he took the civil and mechanical engineering course, later specialising in electrical engineering. He served his time as a premium pupil with the Brush Electrical Engineering Co. Ltd., and with Mr. W. J. Walker, consulting engineer, Westminster. He has been almost exclusively engaged in municipal work, and has held important appointments under the Sheffield, Manchester and Belfast Corporations. In 1912 he was appointed Borough Electrical and Tramways Engineer to the Newport (Mon.) Corporation, and still occupies that position. During the time he has been associated with the Corporation Electricity and Tramways Undertaking he has been responsible for the carrying out of very important extension schemes connected therewith, and has also acted in a consulting capacity to the Monmouthshire County Council and the Newport Board of Guardians. He is a member of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, a member of the Incorporated Municipal Electrical Association, a member of the Municipal Tramways Association, and a member of the committee appointed by the Electricity Commissioners to consider and report upon a scheme for the development of the South Wales and Monmouthshire Area under the Electricity Supply Bill (1919). He is technical adviser for the Electricity Supply Industry (South Wales and Monmouthshire Area) in connection with the Ministry of Labour Training Scheme, and is hon. secretary of the Associated Municipal Electrical Engineers (Great Britain and Ireland). Is a member of the Monmouthshire Club and the Newport Rotary Club. WAR WORK - During the war he carried out, under the Ministry of Munitions, important extension schemes in connection with the supply of electricity for war purposes, and acted as consulting electrical engineer to the Newport National Shell Factory and the Uskside National Works. Was a technical adviser on the Board of Trade Tramways Committee (South Wales and Monmouthshire Area), and a member of the Board of Trade Linking-up Committee for Electricity Supply, and, on the invitation of the Coal Controller, accepted, in an honorary capacity, the appointment of district engineer to advise 011 industrial coal economy.
