Young, Nathaniel James is a native of Somersetshire, and was born at Clutton, a village adjacent to Bristol, - peculiar in itself that no less than three tramway managers have hailed from that same village in recent years. He was educated at the Civil Service academy, Bristol, and commenced his commercial career at the age of 18 with Messrs. Copstick, Lindsay, Crompton & Co., Ltd., of Bow Churchyard, London, with whom he staged three years, leaving to take up a junior position with the Bristol Tramways & Carriage Co., Ltd. He rose rapidly, in a few years attaining one of the chief positions under the managing director of that company. He came to Newport in March, 1912, to take up the position of general manager of the Corporation Electricity and Tramways department, which office he still holds. He was honoured by His Majesty the King with the M.B.E., civil division, in March 1920. Address: Town Hall. Tel. 3111.
