Richards, Edward George Robinson was born at Cork, 20th April, 1858, was educated at Queen's College, Taunton, and afterwards in France. On the termination of his scholastic career, ten years of his life were devoted to commercial pursuits, but he, ultimately, settled down to the gentle pursuit of harmony, and became professor of music, in which vocation he has been established in Newport for many years. His record in the profession is, indeed, a very gratifying one. Conductor of the Chepstow Choral and Orchestral Society for many years, a member of the Crystal Palace Handel Festival Orchestra from 1885 to 1903, and of the Cheltenham Festival Orchestra from 1887, and a member of the orchestra of all National Eisteddfodau held in South Wales from 1888, a member of the Newport Orchestral Society for 40 years. Served as organist of Holy Trinity Church, conductor of the Newport Musical Society, and a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians. He is, in singing, a good bass vocalist, and also an accomplished performer on the violin, and, as a music master, enjoys a large amount of popularity amongst the pupils whom he receives for tuition (singing, violin, organ). Address: Handel House, Oakfield road.
