Charles Cullum

Cullum, Charles was born at Grangemouth, N.B., and was brought to Newport when quite a child in the year 1841. Having been educated in private schools, he served five years as clerk, and afterwards as cashier with the Newport Red Ash Coal Company. He subsequently went to Swansea to take up the position of shipping clerk with the firm of Messrs. H. Bath & Son, of that town. Three years later he resigned that post, and in 1862 Mr. Cullum was elected to the secretaryship of the Newport Waterworks Company. In the year 1888, when this undertaking was purchased by the Newport Corporation, Mr. Cullum was appointed treasurer to the Borough of Newport and manager of the waterworks, which latter position he still holds.
