The sign on the wall, just right of centre, says: "THESE HOUSES FOR SALE".

The sign just to the left of the gates says: "MAINDEE LAWN SCHOOL". In 1911 the school was run by Misses Pearce & James. The property, no. 11, later became Maindee Labour Hall Club and Institute.

The photo must have been taken some time around 1906, two houses had been completed by 1905 but were unoccupied.

Kensington Grove is the second road on the left after Victoria Avenue when heading out of Newport on the Chepstow Road.
