View eastwards, towards England: ex-GWR South Wales main line, showing the Down main platform at Newport as it was before the major alterations of 1961. The 08:12 from Newcastle has come via York, Sheffield, Birmingham New Street, and Gloucester, where the WR locomotive has taken over; due at Cardiff 16:35. The locomotive is Collett 4-6-0 No. 4918 'Dartington Hall' (built 3/29, withdrawn 6/63).
