View westward, from the new Down main (island) platform, towards Cardiff, etc., on the ex-GW South Wales main line, the Western Valleys, etc. A Station Pilot, Collett '8750' class 0-6-0PT No. 3662 (built 2/40, withdrawn 8/65), stands at the demoted Down platform, while Brush Type 4 (later Class 47) 2,750hp Co-Co Diesel No. D1697 (built 12/63, withdrawn as 47.109 in 8/87) brings a long train of flat wagons for transporting new cars along the Up Through line.
